What is SEO, it is an acronym for “Search engine optimisation”, it is a service now offered by many online services. The objectiv is to get more people to visit your site, that is the main goal. This is most often done by commerical websites which offer products, because they are looking to get more clients therefore get more profit. So how is this achieved ? Well, for a start every website can be found with a search engine, such as Google, Yahoo, Ask, Bing etc, but if your website is not at the top of the list suggested by these search engines you will not get many visitors, because they will have gone on one of the first proposed links. Google for example will have at the top of the list big websites, which are often viewed. It knows that the website is often viewed because it has found many many links for it on the web. However search engines try to avoid spamdexing websites, once they find one they remove it from there search. They will do so if they find a website which offers thousands of links and very litte content.

This is a 100% free methode which you can do, but as it time consuming and you need resources you can pay online services to do it for you. There are other ways of optimising your website in the search engines, you can pay the search engine to get a better listing, and this is a legal method.

It is also possible to modify the website structure and content to enable it to be more relevant and found more often. Certain keywords can be added for example, or the HTML codes can be modified to remove certain search engines barriers.

Basically SEO is manipulating the way search engines fonction in ordre to get a website in a better listing position. In order to gain more clients and therefore more money.
